The 256 Barrier Lift

Post by analog604 » 19 Nov 2012 15:42

Guys,

Please, please, please.. allow us to reference array elements larger than 256, and with that to be able
to accept MIDI Input of 1K or more.

The 256 byte limit is holding back system exclusive decoding.

If only we had a limit of 300 then I could decode a patch for DSI Mopho.. and if it were 500 then for the DSI Tetra and Waldorf Blofeld synthesizers. So 512 would be a very happy number to be able to reach here. :D

Right now I can only decode the 77 sweet program bytes of the Pulse. 8-)

I know there is at least one Machinedrum person around that would use bigger MIDI input right away too. ;)

Hi
I'll pass it on, I could certainly do with a bit more scope there as well . . .
Mind you, my VG99 patches are 5.5KB .mid files containing over 200 syx's - generally less than 50 b with one almost 200b
Thats for 1 patch - I have been meaning to try to put a bit of time into dealing with it but have not looked at it in a while
One of my other units seems to have some syx's that are over 1.2k - not sure what I will be able to do there . . .
I am sure the figures will be lifted at some point in the future - just not sure when . . .
Cheers

Please allow greater than 256 bytes for a sysex message! I now see how important this is: if I change programs on my synth, the saved values must be received by lemur. Currently they are not, which is unworkable.

Hi everybody,

Unfortunately I can't this happening any time soon. There's a big overhead involved in adding support arrays over 256 units, it goes against the basic philosophy of Lemur where every array can potentially correspond to an object (for example, Pads.x with 16 rows and 16 columns). We've considered adding support for more exotic data types, but as much as I also personally like the feature, it's not likely something that we'll be able to prioritise any time soon. Sorry about that.

Best regards,
Nick
