Using Abelton Looper with Lemur

Post by jaxlanrae » 06 Sep 2012 06:20

HI,

Has anyone out there figured out a way to set up a Lemur button when using the Abelton Looper so it gives you a visual cue as to what faze it's in (Record / Play / Overdub) ?

Thanks

I believe the correct answer to this question is . . . don't bother, it's not worth it! The Looper device in Live is pretty much broken / unuseable (at least in my experience).

To elaborate - Looper doesn't clear its buffers when instructed to, plays back previously cleared (not!) material randomly. Bag o' shite.

Simply use "switches" and make them "radio"-buttons as a workaround.
Open the attached template and midilearn the (radio-)buttons with
the corresponding looper-Buttons in Live, don´t use the big record-button.

Hope that helps

Further to my previous post re: broken Looper . . . a little more research on the issue (which affects me and many others) yields a possible reason for the buggy behaviour which seems relevant to this discussion.

It appears that controlling the Looper via MIDI somehow contributes to "ghost" buffers? Specifically, using MIDI Note On / Off messages as opposed to CC . . . and all seems related to the multifunction BIG RED BUTTON. I may take a crack at confirming this myself but TBH I'm less than enthusiastic about Looper due to aforementioned bugginess.

Hope this was more helpful than my earlier advice! :)

Here's a link to a forum post that you may find useful in building an interface object to correspond to the BIG RED BUTTON in Looper:

Cheers.
