I do not use Lemur Daemon, only OSC messages are used. I use fixed IP-Addresses on MacBook and iPad. In my Live Set I use a custom developed M4L device to communicate between Lemur and Ableton.
The device is the same when I use Toucosc, no difference. With Touchosc the iPad does not loose the WiFi connection!
The iPad looses the WiFi Connection, I have to connect again to the local network between iPad and Macbook Pro.
In Lemur Settings I do not see anything which could indicate the issue.
What do you do to "connect again to the local network" ? When you put the Lemur app in the background, do you see the Wifi icon on the iPad status bar ? Can you try pinging the iPad's IP from a Terminal app when that happens ?
i have had this same issue since i bought lemur ios on the day it came out. it is super frustrating. it mostly will lose the input connection but sometimes it loses both. very unreliable and i hope there is an easy fix. i am planning on buying the irig midi or midi mobilizer ii and trying to route it through my ak1. i used touchosc all last year and never once had a drop in connection. i can run touchable with no drop in connection. i can also run polychord and sound prism w/ no drops in connection. i am almost certain it is something to do with the lemur daemon. thinking so i downloaded it again after months of just using the one i originally installed and now am on version 3.0.2 and the issue is still there. (side note: how do we know when u update the daemon? i never received any info...)
so how i connect***
on mac:
create network name network password enable 40 bit WEP (tried w/o password and still drops) launch lemur daemon
on ipad:
go to settings network and choose the name of the network i created (input password if needed) open lemur choose input and output
bluetooth is disabled on both devices
inside ableton i have the midi settings and sync set to daemon output 0 and input 0 clicked to track and remote for both
my template that i use is set to send midi target 0... i do not use OSC yet (if i do in the future my hopes of a wired midi fix is pointless)
another friend of mine has the same issues. oddly, a third friend of mine does not... yet.
so specs are:
osx 10.6.8 ios 5.0.1
any help with this matter is appreciated. the physics engine in lemur is too amazing to go back to another touch controller program.
I'm having the same problem but with windows 7... I can work with ableton without problems but after a few minutes the connection drops... I have no experience with OSC, but I do also think that there is some lack of information about how to connect lemur through OSC. Is it possible to replace the midi connection by a OSC connection, and have a simple control of any DAW (ableton in my case) as we do with the midi connection? Or does it need m4l etc...? Never tried and never worked with but is there any osculator alternative to work with windows and liine lemur?
I did a fresh Install of iOS 5.0.1 and Lemur in my iPAD 1 and all Problems are gone. Absolute stable WiFi Connection, I did a test over some hours and no drop occured.
same problem with ipad 1 or 2 and Macos Snow leopard. Had the same problem with midi touch. A lot of forum reports wireless midi not to be reliable. Depends also of the environnement. What I experienced with my 8 ipads : some Daemon ports crash sometimes on some ipads , but never all together. So Daemon is perhaps responsible. wifi never crashes totally ... well
