LiveControl2 + ioDock (+Win7 x64, Live9(32bit))

Post by jksuperstar » 07 Jun 2013 03:23

I have Live9 (as 32bit) running on Windows7 x64, via ioDock.

I have the connections setup ok (talking to ioDock), and the transport seems to work ok.

But non of the tabs update with info: Launch doesn't get clip names (not does it launch anything), Devices don't show in Lemur, etc.

The [Play] tab does seem to send data.

I'm wondering if lack of SYSEX support in ioDock is the issue here? Can someone confirm this is the issue? Or should I look elsewhere?

I'd prefer to stick to MIDI hardware, and NOT use WiFi for connection to the PC.

I can confirm you need SYSEX midi messages support to have LC2 work correctly! You can confirm it too - just look at some of the global scripts in LC2 Lemur template where sysex midi messages handling is obvious and apparent.

Thanks, sounds like it's time for an ioDock hack to add a USB hub and different USB-MIDI interface.

I'm just not into jailbreaking my iPad right now to get Ethernet over USB right now (the only other option to stay hard wired).

It does work otherwise over wifi for me, which is ok for the studio, but not for stage.

Just out of curiosity, if wi-fi works for you in the studio, why not on stage? fear of disconnection? Latency? any other reason?

Too much interference and noise to worry about even with a short distance ad-hoc connection. Add lights, and a million kids with cellphones, and it's just begging for an problem to happen (cellphones themselves aren't a big issue, but every smart phone has wifi, usually left on, which is always searching the channels for an open connection and causing lots of collisions on any channel (doesn't matter if you have encryption or MAC filtering on)).
