Harrison Mixbus

for the moment I have only this Mackie template for Mixbus. I would like to expand this much more using OSC, but somehow I never managed to make a connection to Mixbus (Mac, OSC enabled, standard Ardour commands).

So here it is:

Some elements taken from a template from the user library.

Edit: the protocol in Mixbus appears to be a bit limited. Also I found it difficult to load a session and have the Lemur controller ready. Here is what I found out:

When you create a new session, the Mackie checkbox seems not to be active. Save the session and close Mixbus. Leave MIDI Patchbay open. Run Mixbus again and load the saved session. Still no reaction in Lemur. Now enable Mackie in Mixbus, because this setting probably wasn't saved. Now the connection should be established, and the Lemur template should receive and send MCU data.

Another known issue: when you move a fader, feedback for this fader is gone. I don't know why. My guess is the limited implementation in Mixbus. In order to see automated fader movements in Lemur you'll have to close and reopen Mixbus.

while Mixbus 3 doesn't have the Mackie/MIDI/OSC control enabled yet, I made a little template for key commands. Nothing extraordinary, but useful.

Instructions:
- computer running Mixbus 3 and iPad must be on the same network
- run Lemur, and on the computer open Lemur Daemon
- in Lemur Daemon, click Add, twirl down the arrow at Daemon KbMouse Out, double click Mouse and Keyboard. You should see your iPad's name
- twirl down the arrow and select KbMouse 0
- now you should be connected

Edit: I forgot to mention that a couple of ideas were derived from a template from the user library.

... and there's also the iPhone5 version of the template from the first post:

this one is similar to the TouchOSC template made by Ben@Harrison. Not finished yet, but functional. I'm sure there will be some more OSC parameters available in the future, so I didn't spent much time with the design. It has been useful in a couple of sessions lately, so I thought I share it in its development state.

These templates are using OSC only. Setup is easily done, you just have to point Lemur to the IP of the computer where Mixbus is running, with port 3918, and it will instantly work. There is no feedback from Mixbus. Of course OSC has to be enabled in Mixbus as well. Inside the Lemur template there is also a selector for the OSC target. If you are running more than one computers with Mixbus you can switch between the them.

The TM version includes the original RME Lemur controller for RME interfaces. It's cool to have one controller for two things, with minimal setup time. There you have feedback from TotalMix.

as expected, in version 4 of Mixbus and Mixbus32c there are more OSC commands available. And feedback. Even plugin parameter feedback after plugin preset change. Although it's not working for every plugin. Some plugins don't send parameter values back after a preset change, one has to manually send a /refresh command to make the Lemur controller update all the values. But we have timecode, level meters (mono only), parameter names for inernal channel settings and plugins, and session name. This is perfect for creating a very versatile control surface.

to solve the onLoad problem, there's a simple workaround: at project level, create an onLoad script that sets the three colours to their values. Lemur ignores defined values for expressions while loading a template. After all these years I still keep forgetting that because it's so un-logic.

Tried to do an update, but there are so many things I don't comprehend. Anyway, the current version works well, it can be used in Mixbus sessions.

at the moment I have only found a way to control the first plugin on top of the selected channel. But that's already much, you get next to the parameter values also the parameter names, which is great. Some plugins even send all values after a preset change. Those plugins who don't can be updated with a /refresh command.

For your convenience, I will add a test library with lots of plugin parameters, and a quick control surface for the fb3100 VSTi, a good emulation of the Korg PS-3100. Just have to reboot the computer, the SD card with the libraries is not loading.

- new level meters by denoiser
- mute/solo/rec buttons now load correctly
- selected channel compression level feedback (thanks to Nik@Harrison for that command)
- minor improvements

couldn't solve the problem with the pan pots, so I replaced them with default knobs. With added scripts from the LTI Mixbus controller where you double-tap to reset pan and fader. I recommend to use this version.
