The interesting thing is if I hide all the objects on screen and have no on frame scripts my FPS doesn't magically jump up to 60.

No, hiding objects will never give you the (theoretical) maximum 60 FPS but is still a useful FPS-optimisation.
I'd still be interested in your framerate numbers for TCT if you can provide them tho'
