Minimoog Voyager template for iPad

Hi all

I've been developing a basic set of Lemur (iPad) templates to control a Minimoog Voyager. It's just a fun exercise, and because Lemur's physics engine lends a new dimension to the Voyager's output. It's based on a underlying structure of Adam Taylor's (Salt+Slug) efforts in developing the same for the Moog Little and Slim Phatty models. The Voyager is somewhat different, so I've tried to include as much of the Voyager's control functionality as I could without cramming the display too much. It's still in an early phase of development, so I won't post it to the Lemur Community site for download just yet, but should have it up there over the next couple of days. Although I LOVE playing with the synthesiser's control knobs (who doesn't) this method provides more tweakability when you run out of hands - and the bouncing ball automation opens up possibilities in the studio environment. Very nice indeed. You'll notice that this is the Voyager "Electric Blue" edition... after my own unit.

Anyways - it works well. Still work in progress. Thanks Salt+Slug for the inspiration. It'd be need if we could meld all of these into a unified Moog Lemur solution as long as our styles don't clash too much. LOL! I now prefer sliders for dual state switches rather than buttons.

OK - I've finalised this version, 1.0, and called it "MoogVoyager_v1.0" - if rather unceremoniously. I've updated the images in the first post to show you two new tabs.

The file is here: http://liine.net/en/community/user-library/view/198/ if you'd like to download it for your Lemur app on iPad.

The Program Changer is mostly functional, and will select and de-select presets correctly. Select your preset and it becomes active. At this stage you need to hit it again to de-select it before you're returned to the default of Preset 1 - from which you can choose another preset.

The Bank Select feature doesn't work yet, and until I find out even if you can select banks via MIDI it'll stay dormant.

If you have Lemur, an iPad and a Voyager, please give it a go. I'd like to hear back from those that might try it out - especially if you have a Voyager RME (rack mount edition).

Super nice I'm trying to hook up with a friend that has a voyager to give it a go

Thanks Adam - let me know how it goes. I'm making another few tweaks this week. I have to say that I'm expecting my Eventide Time Factor and Pitch Factor units in the next couple of days, and together with them the Voyager under Lemur physics control is going to put out some mad sound. Can't wait.

Hi
Omaroo, Patch change is possibly easier using an array of switches in radio mode rather than multiple custom buttons . .
For bank change you just need the Bank msb/lsb info and that can be done as well,
Could also include a slider for browsing patches more easily.
Am doing something similar for some of my gear.

I see you are in Sydney - G'day, me too, St George area . . .

Cheers
MM

@Macciza,
We have discussed this before (omaroo & myself). the issue is; the selection of a second switch (in radio) in the array needs to first, send value 0, before sending it's assigned value (between 0-99). Thus reseting the moog's preset value before selecting the new preset, as this seems to be the way their program changes need to be recived (this is also the issue I'm having with the LittlePhatty controller, which this is based on.) And in the case of bank switching, you could easily just use "if" statements on the array based on the different positions of a fader with grid of 5 (I think it's 5 banks, and fader keeps with theme) sending out the 5 different addresses that would be assigned to preset array switches now to figure out what those address differences are ie. "a0-99", "b0-99", "c0-99" (I know these are not correct just example.)

G'Day Macciza :)

Yep - I think Adam covered it - part from the Voyager having 7 banks of 128 presets, not 5. LOL

I can do it with pads, but they won't remain lit in their active state. Custom buttons are all I have time to get going at the moment, although there has to be a way so I'll find it with radio button switches.

St George area? I'm just off Appin Road on the way back to Campbelltown. Locals! LOL

Hi
Does it really need a PC of 0 sent in between patch changes? Seems a bit weird but if you say so -
Have you confirmed with MIDI monitor? because it would need to send that as well for poly setups to change properly . . .

You will also need to find out/work out what Bank messages it is expecting as well - maybe MIDI monitoring again if needed . . .
The Program Change numbers will stay the same but the Bank messages are needed to change Banks obviously . . .

I think it would be easier to use the Switches Radio mode and program the midi stuff then vice versa . . .
Will chuck together a POC and send it to you soonish . . .

I occasionally get out to Campbo to visit a mate - maybe, we should catch up for a brew sometime . .

Cheers

Definitely excited about this template. Should get to test it on Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks!

You're very welcome :) Give it a try (preset button behaviour - will be addressed soon) - let me know.
