Routing the bouncing balls to trigger midi notes

Can someone fill me in on how to route the bouncing balls to trigger midi notes? I have tried using the ball-U-Lator.v2 template with no luck. I have also tried on the Bouncing XY balls installed on the Ipad. Any insight is appreciated.
