If you're trying to get your brain around the whole 'two-byte format' as it applies to SysEx parameters (or NRN/PRN, etc.) that have values greater than 127, have a look at this 'learning template'. The algorithms are not mine, scrounged them together from various threads here, but the 'packaging' should make this dirt-simple to grok and re-implement for your own use.
