iOS vs. Android

I have an iPhone 5s and iPad2 and will soon be time to update both devices. There are various criteria I'll consider before purchasing, but I'll use Lemur on both smartphone and tablet.
So I'm wondering if anyone has experience on both Android and iOS and can recommend one over another.
One obvious drawback of changing platform is the re purchase of the software, but besides that, are the versions equally efficient and bug free (I don't know, but I can imagine that the Android version is more tricky in development due to the various different hardware it has to work with)?
