changing object colors via fader

hello
new to the forums and new to scripting in general, so excuse my beginner question but i couldnt figure this out neither by searching nor by the manual...

my goal is to switch a pads "color on" using a fader (and later automation)

could anyone push me into the right direction of the easiest way to accomplish this ?
